A variation of Cretan insertion, this stitch has one extra twist at the beginning of each stitch and the needle always comes through from the back. Bring the needle up at A and make a stitch diagonally downwards to bring the needle up at B. Twist the needle under and over the previous stitch and come up at C. Twist the needle around the previous stitch as before and continue to the end.

Knotted Insertion Stitch (also known as Knotted Faggoting)

1 Come up at A and make a stitch down to the right, taking the needle down at B. Come up in the gap, over the previous stitch, and loop the thread from left to right under the needle point. Gently pull the thread through to form a knot.
